Talmix Atlas 2023
North America in Focus

North America in Focus

The Talmix Atlas is our analysis of our Talent Marketplace datasets (across both our international client base and 60,000+ talent network) to reveal key findings about workforce and talent trends across geographies in 2023.

In the last editions, we've directed our focus on the Middle East and the APAC region. Now, we take a deep-dive into North America – exploring key business and talent trends, project data, and workforce insights.

Talent Trends

Independent workers contributed $1.35 trillion to the U.S. economy in annual earnings in 2022, up $50 billion from 2021. In a saturated and competitive market, it is especially pleasing see so many business professionals registering with Talmix as as a trusted “home” for business talent - North America is the region with the highest number of registered talent on the Talmix network, making up 25% of the entire global network.

Predictably, between February and April 2020 (the start of the pandemic), Talmix saw staggering growth in the number of independent workers joining the platform. This was, of course, the pattern in all corners of the globe…but in the US alone, 2,401 business professionals joined Talmix in only an eight week period.

These numbers have not stagnated since those early days of the pandemic either (the US network, for example, has continued to grow by 65% as of January 2023).

A combination of economic necessity, employer demand and the continued development of tools like Talmix to facilitate independent work, have contributed to a marked uptick in people seeking independent work in key regions around world.

Women lead the way

Women now make up more of the Talmix talent network than ever before, and we are seeing positive development across all corners of our talent network. North America leads the way globally for female talent registrations, and across the US, female talent now accounts for 31% of the NA Talent Network – a notable rise from 18% in 2019.

Added to this, the number of female applications on the Talmix platform has risen by 20% in North America between 2021 and 2023.

Project Insights

North America leads the way globally for highest project growth, most projects and highest values over the last twelve months. On the talent side, no other region can match the 18,550 talent applications from US talent for Talmix projects since 2019.

What's in demand?

In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, transformation talent stands out as most in-demand for North American clients on the Talmix Marketplace, in a bid to remain competitive. Adoption rates of AI tech are certainly on the rise too – our data points to greater adoption across the tech, telecoms and financial sectors, as companies embrace AI to streamline their service operations.

Revenue Operations talent is also in very high demand across the US, as businesses, and particularly our Private Equity clients, are using the Talmix Marketplace for fast access to the best talent to align the operations, systems, and data that support their revenue teams and spawn more scalable growth.

Remote-first?

Remote work has emerged as a widespread practice in the workplace in recent years, with a growing number of businesses adopting and implementing fresh approaches to finding and using talent. The extended workforce now makes up a significant portion of the global workforce, and businesses are drawn in by the speed, flexibility and scalability offered by this global talent network.

The shift to remote has enabled wider pools of talent around the world to open up which means that, in an environment of rapidly changing customer and market demands, key skills can now be unlocked and accessed at a much faster rate to deliver on business-critical initiatives.

Looking into job postings across North American markets at Talmix, 26% of all projects posted on the Talmix marketplace are listed as remote-first – the majority of our clients are much more interested in creating teams that are organised around the skills needed to deliver quickly business initiatives and are prepared to be flexible on location in favour of quality.

Some of the areas with the highest ratio of remote workers include Rhode Island, Washington DC, Utah and Maine. There seems to be a clear awareness that, by securing access to these extended global networks, businesses can connect to previously unreachable talent and drive greater innovation through access to fresh ways of thinking, connecting to the skills that can deliver immediate expertise to address the freshest operational challenges.
